Well I am loving life in the mission right now with Elder Lopez as my companion. He is a super good missionary! This week was a pretty normal week in the life of the mission. We worked, ate pupusas, and worked some more. We did interchanges with the zone leaders in Santa Tecla this past week. Elder Lopez can’t drive so I dropped him off in Santa Tecla and brought Elder Maliga back to work with me. Elder Maliga and I have been pretty good buddies throughout the mission, so it was fun to get to work with him.
We are really trying to work through the members to find more families to teach. What I really want to do is be finding complete families that are willing to hear the gospel. We have a few that we are teaching right now and they are super positive. We should be seeing a couple families come to the waters of baptism in the month of October.
We did have one pretty cool thing happen this week though. We had a family that disappeared awhile ago and a member found them again for us. They didn’t have a phone and lived in a place that we weren’t allowed to go into because of gang problems. One of the members, Brother Dominguez, ran into them a few days ago and is helping them to start coming back to church again. I am super excited about it! We had been thinking of a way to be able to get ahold of that family for awhile, but didn’t have any way to. Now we have another family to start teaching again.
Brother Lemus and Brother Palomo both got interviewed for the Aaronic priesthood this Sunday and should be receiving it the week after conference. They are super solid converts and are progressing super fast! They both have been asking things like how soon they can get their patriarchal blessings. That is something you definitely don’t hear from a recent convert every day.
President Adams had his birthday on Friday as well. He and Sister Adams invited us over for lunch to celebrate it with them. We have pizza and cake and had a good time with them. They are awesome and I have learned a ton from them. I feel like I have lucked out with mission presidents. I have had three now and they have all been great!
Well things are great here! I hope you all have a great week! Love you!
With President Adams
Well I have my new companion now. Elder Lopez is from Nicaragua and is a super good missionary. He works hard and is a really good teacher. We were already good friends before we got put together, so we are pretty excited to be companions. We are in the same group, so we will be finishing the mission together in December. That means that for my last change of the mission, I will get to go serve the Lord in a different capacity than as an assistant. I love being an ap (assistant to the president), but I am really excited that I will get to spend all of my time working in the field.
Well this weekend, we confirmed Brother Palomo and the Lemus Family. They are solid converts and will be people that will be building the kingdom. They are definitely future leaders in the church. We also have another family that we are teaching that is super positive. They told us they want to be baptized on the 16th of October. They already have testimonies of the Book of Mormon and love how they feel when they come to church. We have a couple other really solid investigators that are progressing towards baptism as well. We are working hard, but are trying our best to work as smart as we can as well. We have been working a lot more with the members instead of just going out and knocking doors. We have gained a lot more confidence from the members and they have been a lot more willing to help us out. It has been amazing to see the amount of success that can come from working with members.
We are going to have a pretty busy change coming up. We have interviews with all the missionaries and a bunch of other meetings planned. We just started this change and I already feel like it is almost over. Time is going by too fast out here. Well I hope you all have a great week! Love you!
Well this week is changes week, so we are going to be really busy! We have been with President Adams a lot to finalize everything and now we just have to put it all into effect. My new companion is going to be a missionary named Elder Lopez. He is one of my good friends out here in the mission and a really good missionary. I am really excited for all the things I am going to be able to learn from him. He is going to be an awesome companion. Elder Monsen and I had a really good change this past change and we worked extremely hard together. We were able to see some of the fruits of our labor this weekend and had three baptisms. Brother Palomo and the Lemus Family were baptized. They are probably some of the most solid converts I have ever seen! I always feel the spirit at baptismal services, but I have never felt it as strongly as I did at this one. It was such a cool blessing to see them get baptized. They wanted to be baptized so badly and really understood what they were doing. It has been amazing to see the joy and happiness that has come into their lives from the step they took of being baptized.
We also found a couple more families that are coming to church now and have a strong desire to be baptized in October. We have been seeing a lot of miracles out here lately. We decided that we were going to do our very best to support President Adams and make his burden lighter, and then work as hard as we can in the time that we have in our area. As we have helped President Adams in doing our best to fulfill our roles as assistants, the Lord has blessed us with people to teach that want to hear about the gospel.
Well this is short, but I am running short on time. I am in the office right now and have been distracted with a bunch of other things in getting things ready for changes while I have been writing. I love the mission and this was a great week! I hope you all have a great week too! Love you!
Well to answer a few of your questions, things have been going great this week. As far as whether I am going to be staying or going to a different area, President Adams said he is trying to decide on that one. If I stay as an AP until I finish my mission in my area, that would be 6 changes as an AP. That is a super long time. He said that isn’t really fair to me to leave me as an AP for so long, but he is not sure if he can let me go with some of the things that are going to be going on. We’ll see what happens though. I am hoping that I get sent somewhere as a zone leader or a trainer for my last change. I am going to be staying as an AP for this next change though. Elder Monsen is going to finish his mission this change. We have been teaching a lot of the people that are coming to church. We have seen a lot of blessings with those people and we will be having 3 baptisms this weekend. The Lemus Family and Brother Palomo will be getting baptized. We are super excited for them and it will be a cool way for Elder Monsen to finish his mission as well.
We went and played some basketball this morning with a couple guys that work in the embassy here. It was super fun to go play some ball. I really miss playing. Here it is just pure soccer most of the time. I got beat on pretty good while I was playing though. I am not nearly as strong as I was before the mission. In fact, I am pretty skinny right now. Haha. I am trying to do something about that in the next few months though. Hopefully I can put a few pounds on.
The Lemus Family and Brother Palomo are doing great and getting ready for their baptisms this Sunday. They are probably some of the most solid investigators I have ever taught. Brother Palomo has been listening to Gospel Principles and conference talks in his car and is always watching talks on YouTube when we go over to teach him. He has a ton of faith and is going to be a future leader of the church. The Lemus Family is doing great as well. They have all been coming to church for quite awhile and wanted to be very sure that they were making the right decision. They are all really excited to get baptized.
We spent a lot of time working on changes with President Adams this week. It is a really cool experience to be able to spend so much time with him. He is a really good guy and has helped me a lot through his example to become a better missionary. Even though working as an assistant is pretty tiring, the experiences that I have and the learning opportunities that I get are something that is worth being so tired over. It is definitely a one of a kind experience. I am learning a ton and lots of life skills that are going to help me throughout life. It is cool how much of the behind the scenes mission stuff can be related to business. We look at a lot of charts and projections.
We did a fun service project this week. There was an investigator family that we found that was needing to move their house. They said that they couldn’t come to church on Sunday because they were going to be moving their house. We told them that if they came to church, we would come help them move their house so it could get done faster. There were 6 of us that went and helped them. The family came to church and we helped them move. It was a pretty good deal. We haven’t found them for a little while now, but we are going to keep trying.
Well I hope you all have a great week! Love you all!
